Discussion

Decision

Summary of responses to question 02 UN received 50 answers. Out of them: * 40 support the proposal of suggesting countries to fully implement ISIC at 2-digit level of ISIC Rev.3.1. * 9 answers require further discussion and research, without expressing a clear opinion. * 1 answer (Japan) claims that even 2-digits level is difficult to implement for some countries. 17 countries consider the 2-digit level as a minimum requirement, e.g. countries should implement ISIC as far down as possible. 5 countries consider not necessary, for international comparability, a more detailed level than 2-digits. 22 answers ask for further investigation on the following aspects: * number of divisions: is app. 60 sufficient? * definition of divisions: implication for National Accounts should be carefully considered. OECD: If the 2-digit level is going to get a greater prominence in the new ISIC, then we have to consider divisions very carefully. Ex. Pharmaceutical and health services might be a strong candidate for division.
